All About Palika Bazar

Palika Bazaar is an underground market in Connaught Place. It is the only air-conditioned underground market of Delhi and is located between the inner and outer circles of the Connaught Place. Palika Bazar or just Palika, as it is locally called is known for its reasonably priced goods and makes an ideal shopping centre for budget travellers visiting the capital city particularly during the scorching summer season. Palika Bazar, is a find it all kind of a market.


History

Palika Bazaar was established in the 1970s originally as a retail outlet to cater to the neighbouring areas and residents of Central Delhi. It was constructed in a circular shape to match the circular shaped Commercial Connaught Place market. Now it has become a famous shopping hub of its own repute having close to 400 shops.


What to expect and how to reach

Palika Bazaar has seven entrances that lead visitors down a floor to the market area. Gate No. 1 is used as the main entrance gate of the Bazaar and faces the Central Park which is in the centre of the Connaught Place circle. The palika also has an underground parking for the visitors who visit in their own vehicles and it is located near the main gate. Gate No. 2 is close by to gate 1 and is equipped with a ramp entry for physically challenged visitors, a facility that is also available at gate 7. Gates 3 and 4 are not in use. Gate No. 5 faces theJanpath market, the N Block and the Jeevan Bharti building. Gate No. 6 faces the N Block and F Block of Connaught place.


Palika Bazaar Market is open between 10:30 AM and 8:00 PM from Mondays to Saturdays and remains closed on Sundays.
Palika Bazar can be reached by various modes of transport, but as convenient as the Delhi metro is, reaching here by metro is the best bet. Rajiv Chowk which is on the yellow line of the Delhi Metro /is the closest metro station. Gate number 6 of the Rajiv Chowk leads the visitor directly to Palika Bazar’s main entrance and if the visitor wants to cover Janpath market and walk towards Palika having done so, Janpath metro station which is on the violet line is the closest.
